April 3, 2013 San Francisco
A thousand protestors rallied against the proposed Keystone XL pipeline within earshot of Obama’s somewhat delayed fundraiser in the upscale Pacific Heights neighborhood of San Francisco. The colorful event had been quickly organized by several groups including CREDO, Rainforest Action Network, 350.org, Sierra Club, and Friends of the Earth in anticipation of Obama’s visit.

“You know about climate change? We’re on the fast track. All the estimates have been underestimates so far. Personally I think it’s gonna be really bad. I compare it to that of the Titanic. This is an avoidable, foreseeable tragedy. And saying yes to the Keystone pipeline is like putting more fuel into the boilers, it’s like more speed is going to help the situation – we need to change course.” ~ Pipeline protestor
“The connection to the pipeline is pretty obvious, if you take the fossil fuel out of the ground and burn it, we’re going to get to CO2 levels that will cause the Arctic to melt entirely. The Arctic is already melting, and that will mean the polar bear will not be able to survive… Game over for the polar bear if we burn all of that fossil fuel.” ~ demonstrator with The Center for Biological Diversity
