Mayor Libby Schaaf of Oakland California spoke at COP21 alongside other panelists including green philanthropist Tom Steyer,\u00c2\u00a0Diane Holdorf, Kellogg\u2019s chief sustainability officer, and Gary Demasi, Data Center Energy & Location Strategy at\u00c2\u00a0Google.<\/p>\n

As has become\u00c2\u00a0the custom among\u00c2\u00a0politicians, \u00c2\u00a0climate change actions\u00c2\u00a0we’re primarily\u00c2\u00a0framed as\u00c2\u00a0wise economic choices, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Climate action can save you money\u00e2\u20ac\u009d she said.<\/p>\n

There were also\u00c2\u00a0progressive messages in her statement, as she highlighted a partnership with Rising Sun which engages in job training for low income people and for\u00c2\u00a0those returning from prison. She also mentioned Oakland’s ‘social justice’ and ‘equity goals’ and issues of consumptive emissions.<\/p>\n
